The Hill Billies, aka Al Hopkins and His Buckle Busters, recorded Texas Gals at an October 22nd, 1926, session in New York City. It was released as Vocalion # 5021, paired with Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad.

Texas Gals is a three-part tune in C major. The middle strain is very similar to the second strain of Billy in the Low Ground, except that the harmonic accompaniment remains firmly on a C chord in places where one would typically play an F or A minor chord. The third strain introduces faster harmonic motion, which provides a nice contrast with the preceding harmonically static strains.

There are some audible flubs in the recording the first time through the second strain. Those have been omitted from this transcription.
