This transcription is based on a performance that the Kessinger Brothers recorded in New York City on June 25th, 1929. It was released on Brunswick as # 458, and on Melotone as # M18019, credited to ‘Les Serenadeurs Du Lac St Jean.’ Each strain of this tune can be found in the better-known Cripple Creek. What distinguishes Going Up Brushy Fork from that tune is:

  1. The length and arrangement of the sections — Cripple Creek is typically comprised of four-bar A and B strains, played AABB, and;
  2. The title.

The only other recording of this tune under this title was a spirited performance by Milton Brown and His Musical Brownies, recorded in Chicago in 1935.
